Voting is perhaps the quintessential form of political participation, but there are many other ways of being involved in the political process.

• For example, people can be involved in a campaign; they can attend community meetings; contact public officials to direct their attention to a particular problem; work through an interest group; participate in a protest, demonstration, or social movement; and so forth.
